Gesture Research – Protocol (Part 3: Actions)

As mentioned in the Gesture Reserach – Protocol (Part 2: Session Flow), participants were asked to perform 28 actions. This blog provides a description and the “before” and “after” screens of each action

Here are a few key instructions to all moderators who ran this study:

- The moderator needs to make sure that the participant performs an actual “gesture”! If participants say that they would want to tap a softkey for a particular action then we have to document this finding. But we would then inform the user that there is no such softkey and encourage them to find a gesture, with which they would trigger this action.

- The moderator should encourage the participant to use more than one finger if they think that is best for the action.

- It is important that the participants hold the rig inline with their line of sight. If participants hold the rig at an angle or twisted in one direction, the marks may not be accurate.

- If participants want to perform more than one gesture for a certain action, the moderator asks them to choose the most adequate one.
